I’m excited to announce the launch of my new company - Breakwater M&A

Here’s the TL;DR:

  • What’s New: After selling DealBuilder in the fall, I’m excited to share the launch of my new company Breakwater M&A

  • What is Breakwater? While this start-up announcement is becoming a cliché right now: Breakwater is an AI-first M&A platform.

  • How is Breakwater different from a typical M&A firm? We are not a brokerage, instead, Breakwater partners with licensed M&A Advisors (our ‘Deal Partners’) around the world and eliminates their overhead. We do this by automating their entire workflow with AI and give them access to a centralized back-office team of Analysts and Deal Managers (yes real humans) here in Canada. We have already signed 4 Deal Partners with hundreds of thousands of pipeline revenue.

  • What is the 1-year plan? Our goal is to close 12 deals in the next 12 months to validate the platform. Our mission is to guide entrepreneurs to life-changing exits, eventually facilitating 1,000+ transactions per year.

idea of the week

  • problem: when booking travel it’s hard to know if you’re actually getting the best deal or if there will be a last minute price drop on your flight.

  • idea: Build an AI-first travel agent that monitors and predicates flight prices on your behalf. Similar to what Ramp has done with hotel bookings - the agent books a refundable/cancellable fare and then monitor flight prices right up to the travel date to cancel + rebook on an optimized fare based on prices + your point balance. The AI agent plugs into your different travel accounts + credit cards to book flights on your behalf.

  • how it makes money: Monthly subscription OR you could charge a % of the savings it’s able to secure for you.

  • why it might fail: there is a ton of competitors coming into this space and airlines and/or travel booking sites could block bots if this area gets saturated.

workout of the week

I’ve been travelling a lot recently, often without access to a proper gym. Here’s a go-to workout that will crush your legs and is great while on the road:

Complete 5 rounds of the following as fast as you can:

  • 20 air squats

  • 20 alternating lunges

  • 20 jumping split lunges

  • 10 jump squats

This workout is mis-leading - it’s harder than it looks. It’s also perfect if you don’t have access to a gym or outdoor area.
